    Fuel Savings Notice to Pilots

We have had reports that some FBO's have been giving very substantial discounts to pilots participating in Operation Teacup, while others have been giving nominal discounts or none at all.

One pilot reported that they were given discounts from the posted $5.00+ fuel prices down to a more "reasonable" $3.77 by a FBO who had advance notice that they were coming in with a family. The receptionist, on her own, also had clothes and toys for the family and children when they arrived and gave them the red carpet treatment

We had a similar experience negotiating with a FBO in Denver. The clerk first offered a .05 discount, but when the larger discount was related, we were passed to the manager, who said he would pass the request on to the higher ups, who he thought would "match the competition" or possibly "donate a load of fuel".

For our pilots who have been paying their own way, and receiving no support from anyone except their own personal bank accounts, this can provide worthwhile savings

    Translation.
It appears that when notified in advance of arriving flights, the FBO's may give much more substantial discounts if the matter is handled discretely. It would be well worth while to advise the FBO and try and negotiate a more substantial discount, in advance by telephone" They have a business to run, and bills to pay, just like everyone else, so they are stretching things a lot to do this, just as the pilot is, who is digging into his own pocket. So, handle the matter carefully.

Good public relations go a long way in getting the job done, quickly, quietly, an at the least possible pain.

Link to FBO's Who are contributing some of the fuel gross profits to Hurricane Katrina Victims, averaging .03 to .10 a Gallon. We ask that you support these FBO's when you want to make a donation of your fuel expenses.

Want to Help Spread The Word?

2005-09-15 Today we received a request to help evacuate 400 persons. These people have relatives all over the United States who will provide housing if they can get where their relatives are.

If you don't have an airplane, but would still like to help get the word out, PLEASE download the below form, print it out, and post it at your local airport in the pilot lounge or flight room bulletin board for other pilots to see

If you are going to make a flight in the next few days, make some extra copies and post them on the bulletin boards at your destination(s)

It is likely that this need to evacuate people will go on for months, from the stories I have heard from people at the shelters in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, LA

It appears there will be an ongoing need for transportation in and out of the area both to bring in supplies and medical people and to take out refugees

    Aircraft Owner Volunteers Are Needed

In response to the disaster in Haiti where 1,000,000 people are homeless, and the unfolding catastrophic damage due to Hurricane IKE in Galveston and Houston, TX, Operation Teacup has put out a call for volunteer aircraft owners, flight instructors, and pilots to assist with emergency relief flights, into Haiti, the Dominican Republic, The Bahamas, Houston, Texas and Galveston, Texas and other areas needing emergency help.

The group, organized during Hurricane Katrina, by Fred Quarles of Charlottesville, VA and Baldy Ivy of Seligman, AZ, flew tens of thousands of miles of emergency evacuations, and were credited with saving many lives, without accident or incident, "On time, every time" as an "aviation bucket brigade".

The average flight was over 2,000 nautical miles and cost the volunteer aircraft owner, on average over $1,200, each flight, for out of pocket fuel.

Operation Teacup is asking volunteer pilots, to make prior arrangements through local churches, to take a few evacuees, each, as houseguests, for a short period of time.

According to Quarles, Director of Operation Teacup, " These private aircraft can carry 2-6 passengers each and utilize outlying general aviation airports, so as not to over-burden the air traffic control system. There are over 250,000 small aircraft in the US Fleet.

"If the pilots who volunteer, just take home a couple of guests for a few days, we may be able to avert a repeat of the Houston Astrodome disaster. Collectively, we can evacuate a lot of people in a short time, without disrupting the system, if we work together.".

Aircraft Owners, flight instructors, and pilots who wish to volunteer for these missions, should visit the website at http://teacup.scieron.com for details.

Volunteers are promised "No pay, No Thanks, Hard Work, All the alligators you want".

Operation Teacup is now a division of The Independent Inventors Foundation,
a 501 (c) 3 private foundation charity. Donations are tax deductible.

Persons wishing to donate for fuel and operations, may send donations made payable to:

We Welcome The Assistance of Regular Donations
    From "Operation Teacup" Supporters

While our aircraft owners, flight instructors and pilots are all volunteers,
Operation Teacup does need to maintain a small staff of paid employees

We also incur the usual ongoing expenses for telephone,
    utilities, and office rental

We are seeking to build an endowment to

    1. Pay day to day operating expenses
    2. Build a warchest of operational funds for emergency use
    3. Build a warchest to defray fuel costs for our volunteers

Our goal is to have a 24/7 fully staffed operation
to maintain a readiness for national emergencies

This sort of readiness requires a reliable stream of funds

We welcome a commitment for regular donations to enable
"Operation Teacup" to budget for staffing needs

WE are able to accept donations of chattel goods as well.
If you have automobile, boats, airplanes, real estate, or stock
We can make arrangements to take delivery at no expense to you!
